‘The importance of conversation‘ Oil on canvas – Anwen Roberts
A mother and son exhibition of oil paintings and photography.
Twenty four years ago Anwen Roberts’ first solo exhibition opened in Ucheldre while she was heavily pregnant with her son Cai Jones.
Appropriately, when an opportunity arose again to exhibit here, she decided to show her oil paintings alongside her son’s photographs.
He is now also a farmer and keen photographer.
Mother and son are inspired to create by aspects of their farming lives.
Exhibiting his photographs for the first time, Cai farms the headlands of Rhoscolyn.
He finds beauty in an often harsh farming environment, capturing peaceful or aesthetically pleasing colours and forms.
Anwen is drawn to the day to day of the people, places, animals, and activities of the ever changing visual imagery of agricultural life.

Anwen Roberts says: “If my painting It’s good to talk…..and listen (No 5) is sold, the proceeds will be donated to The DPJ Foundation. The Charity supports farmers needing help with their mental health. It’s a brilliant Charity that is very much needed as there is a very high suicide rate amongst farmers due to the high pressure nature of their business, and isolation, amongst other things.”

The Rep’s Saturday Tap Class who have a bi-weekly class is proving very popular.
It’s open to everyone – not just Rep people. Under Victoria’s tuition (she is the Duchess in the forthcoming Rep production of Wyrd Sisters) the group’s ambition has grown!
On Sunday 25 May 10am-12pm, they took part in the Roy Castle Tap Dancing Challenge to raise money for lung cancer.
So far they have been very successful in the amount of money raised. It isn’t too late to donate; this is the link if you would like to do so: JustGiving

As of the 8th November
Bedrock is being broken to provide the foundation pads for the Entrance and Shop Pavilions.
Elsewhere the installation of the secondary timber continues. A working group is finalising design and installation details for the cladding to go on the roof and sides of the Pavilions. The juggling continues with the programme and spaces and we thank you for your continuing support and forbearance.
As ever much to do, but much to look forward to as well thanks to Holyhead – A Cultural and Heritage driven transformation funded by the UK Government with match funding from the Arts Council of Wales and the Community Facilities Programme.
Beautiful scenes which is quite serene given all the noise and busyness of the works in hand.
