The Ucheldre Centre recognizes the Arts Council of Wales’ preferred definition of disability which is the social one: that society disables people by putting barriers in their way. These range from physical and communication barriers to those of attitude.

The Ucheldre Centre is committed to securing equal opportunities for disabled staff and visitors in recognition of their right to participate fully in the activities of the Centre.

Whilst converting and extending the Centre, care was taken to ensure that, wherever possible, the needs of disabled people were provided for. Therefore, there is level or ramped access to all public areas (including the amphitheatre and the walled garden with its raised sensory beds and ramp) and an accessible lavatory.

It is the Centre’s policy to be as welcoming and helpful as possible to everyone who visits the Centre. Additionally, in the case of disabled people, we are only too pleased to assist in every way possible, including access through the side door to make a shorter journey, help with entering the lavatory or other rooms, placing wheelchairs in the best possible place for performances and reserving places with the helper, explaining exhibitions and calling for taxis or other tranport. We have also hosted visits and work experience day courses for disabled people.

Visitors are welcome to ring or e-mail ahead to check specific aspects of accessibility and a member of staff can arrange to meet and help as necessary.

Vehicles can be parked on the road in front of the building, but those who do not want to travel so far can park in the rear car park, close to the side entrance and ring for entrance and assistance
