‘The importance of conversation’ Oil on canvas – Anwen Roberts
Twenty four years ago Anwen Roberts’ first solo exhibition opened in Ucheldre while she was heavily pregnant with her son Cai Jones.
Appropriately, when an opportunity arose again to exhibit here, she decided to show her oil paintings alongside her son’s photographs.
He is now also a farmer and keen photographer.
Mother and son are inspired to create by aspects of their farming lives.
Exhibiting his photographs for the first time, Cai farms the headlands of Rhoscolyn.
He finds beauty in an often harsh farming environment, capturing peaceful or aesthetically pleasing colours and forms.
Anwen is drawn to the day to day of the people, places, animals,
and activities of the ever changing visual imagery of agricultural life.

Anwen Roberts says: “If my painting It’s good to talk…..and listen (No 5) is sold, the proceeds will be donated to The DPJ Foundation. The Charity supports farmers needing help with their mental health. It’s a brilliant Charity that is very much needed as there is a very high suicide rate amongst farmers due to the high pressure nature of their business, and isolation, amongst other things.”
