Centre for the performing and visual arts in Anglesey, North Wales
The restaurant at the Ucheldre Centre — the Ucheldre Kitchen — is run by Sally Williams. It concentrates on offering customers something they couldn’t get elsewhere in Holyhead: home-made food, a vegetarian menu, speciality coffee, salads, wine, and other offerings combined to produce a different kind of eating experience in a wonderful setting. The restaurant can also provide for pre-show dinners, children’s parties, business lunches, and other special occasions such as wedding receptions, which can be set in the Main Hall. Christmas lunches also prove popular.
Sally’s lemon meringue pie has become legendary. Local artist Philippa Jacobs even painted its portrait! Meals or refreshments can be taken in the adjacent tranquil walled garden with its water feature and sculptures.
The Ucheldre Kitchen is open 10.00–16.30 and whenever there is an event at the Centre outside these times. Lunches are served 12.00–14.00 every day except Sundays. Coach parties are welcome — if booked in advance.
The sloping ceiling of Scandinavian pine gives a sense of space, with brightness provided by windows in the roof. The design lifts the eyes upwards, echoing the architecture of the main hall.
One wall houses a collection of art for sale, mostly by local artists.
